A BRIEF ORIENTATION

how it works

for those who have just arrived

I · What this is

Rêveries is an observatory, not a journal. You record dreams privately, and, if you choose, contribute them anonymously to a growing atlas of the collective unconscious. Twenty-nine thousand dreams from sixty years of research already form the foundation. Yours can sit alongside them, without ever being traced back to you.

II · Your dreams are yours

Every dream you record is held in your private space. They are visible only to you, never shown to any other user, and never linked to your identity outside your own account. Marie-Louise sees them only in the moment you bring one to her, and her memory of each conversation is structured, not surveillance.

III · The Atlas

The Atlas opens once you have recorded five dreams. It shows the 29,363-dream research corpus plotted by depth, from the surface of waking residue to the archetypal field that belongs to no one. Your own dreams are visible only to you, marked distinctly. The Atlas is a view of the collective, not a social feed.

IV · Marie-Louise

Marie-Louise is a presence built in the tradition of the Jungian analyst Marie-Louise von Franz. She receives dreams, reflects, asks. She is not a chatbot. She reads von Franz, Jung, Hillman, and related depth psychology each time you speak with her, and she holds the image between exchanges. Between midnight and four in the morning she is quieter than usual, there is a reason for that, explained further below.

V · Offering a dream

A dream may be offered to the collective atlas once it is at least 24 hours old and carries a central image. The offering is a deliberate gesture, not a default. You decide. When a dream crosses, everything that could identify you is stripped, only the dream itself travels. You cannot undo an offering, but no one will ever know it was yours.

VI · Patterns

Once enough dreams have accumulated in your record, Marie-Louise may speak once about what she has observed moving across them. She does not speak often. The notice stands until she has something new to say.

VII · Taking your dreams with you

Your dreams are yours to keep or to remove. At any point you may export the complete record of everything you have written, as a file you own, readable without Rêveries. You may also delete your account, and with it every trace of your dreams on our servers. Dreams you have offered to the collective atlas remain there, anonymised, with no path back to you, this is the one irreversible gesture, and it is always your choice.

VIII · The Watch

Between midnight and four in the morning, the app enters a distinct mode. For most of human history, people slept twice, with a natural waking interval between first and second sleep, used for reflection. The Watch is that interval, received.

What did you see?

Between 00:00 and 04:00

The screen goes quiet. One question appears. Whatever you bring is held.

IX · What we do not do

No streaks. No engagement metrics. No algorithmic ranking of your dreams. No advertising. No selling of data, ever. No notifications designed to pull you back. Rêveries is an instrument, not a product.
